Fire!
Before I could get good and asleep tonight, I was awoken by what seemed to be a scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind… I could tell there was some sort of commotion outside, and there were all kinds of flashing lights outside… after opening the blinds, it turns out there were about a half dozen fire trucks and police cars in the parking lot of my apartment.
It soon became apparent that the building next to mine was on fire – the bottom-level apartment was quickly being overtaken by the flames… the door was open, and you could see inside – pretty spooky really. Eventually the flames started spreading outside to the apartment above it. After what seemed like a very long time, the firemen got the hoses going and put the fire out pretty quickly. I don’t think anyone was hurt in the process, thank God.
Now to get a few hours of sleep before I have to be at work…
Blah blah blah
Not much going on, but I feel compelled to write… now that it’s starting to get a little cooler, I’m already in the mood for Christmas. Only 66 more days!
Deja Vu All Over Again
Posted by Lane in Entertainment, Music, Random on September 22, 2002
This is the first day it has actually felt non-summer-ish… appropriate, since Fall officially started this weekend.
I was just outside mowing my yard in the cooler weather, listening to some old Guns N’ Roses, and was practically knocked over by a wave of nostalgia. Suddenly, it’s 1988, the beginning of my sophomore year of high school… constant trips on the school bus to football games or band contests, wishing Kristin would pay attention to me
That was also the beginning of my self-imposed morphing from junior high nerd to angst-ridden teen rocker guy. Kind of hard to do with braces and Bon Jovi, but I gave it my best shot!
Anyway, it got me to thinking about high school. While I wouldn’t want to go back and re-do it (not even “knowing then what I know now”), I do miss the friendships. A good dozen close friends that I hung out with on a regular basis, and even greater number of passing acquaintances I considered friends. That’s definitely the one aspect I would like to recapture… as long as I could do it without the acne, braces, 1983 Chevy Celebrity, mullet hair (yes, I proudly wore one throughout high school), girlfriend issues (more appropriately, the lack of one), etc. etc. etc.
I’m working on getting some video online from the last performance of my last band (April 2000, I believe)… it’ll probably be up tomorrow.
“Yowzah…”
Weird Dream
Talk about a weird dream last night… it was one of those that goes on and on, where seemingly disconnected thoughts get jumbled up into the same storyline.
From what I could tell, the overarcing plot was a romance, from initial introduction to marriage. I was a third-party observer in all this. The groom in question had dated several women prior, always stealing them from this other unfortunate individual. (One of the past girlfriends was a blonde country singer, who ended up in jail – in the dream, of course).
The wedding itself was absolutely enormous… there were two separate concerts – one involved the Goo Goo Dolls, in a barn loft of some sort. “Blossom” was there. The other concert was by Sting, in a huge field on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean – which is where the wedding took place as well. There were literally thousands of people at the concert and wedding.
What does this all mean? Got me
Well, I’ve got to mow the yard…
Two food observations/questions
- Since when did putting a semi-solid food (such as yogurt, jell-o, etc) into a tube and selling it to kids make said food “X-treme”?
- This morning I tried one of those cereal bars with the “milk” already inside. I’m not sure what that substance is exactly, but it’s definitely not milk.
Catfish
I went with the catfish… and broccoli, and rice. Tasty.
So anyway, from time to time people will ask me: “Lane, whatever happened to your website? I visited it all time time – it was my favorite place to go on the web!” (italics = my embellishment)
Basically I just got busy doing other things. And since “things” in general are pretty quiet at the moment, I thought I’d get this site going again. And there you have it.
Welcome to Winter!
Welcome to Winter! The weather sure got nasty today… just like it knew! Anyway, I’m heading home tomorrow, so Merry Christmas!
December 27, 1997
Hey – Merry Christmas everyone! I hope y’all had a wonderful holiday with your family… I sure did.
I added a different sound clip – it’s a little longer than “Rico Suave”, so you may need to wait a minute to hear it
